Wonderful Travel Tips

Whether travelling for home or abroad, you will find many things you can do to make sure that your vacation goes easily and pleasantly. An unskilled traveller might not understand how to discover the least expensive flight, the very best hotel rates or individual off-the-beaten-track travel destinations, which are essential for anybody with children. All of the do’s and don’ts, the inner workings, and good and the bad of travelling are laid out for you personally in this article, so you’ll have a safe, economical and exciting trip from beginning to end.

To save cash travelling lengthy distance inside countries such as the US and Australia you need to consider taking coaches rather than flying. Coach trips can help you save a lot of money, particularly if you know where you can search for discounted rates.

When you are travelling, access to the internet is a thing that you should consider. One thing that you ought to remember is the fact that certain coffee houses like Local cafe and public libraries will often have free wi-fi, and in some cases so will buses and trains. Why purchase costly internet in the hotel available to get it free of charge?

Among the best ways to cut costs when you are travelling is to reserve your plane, train or ‘experience’ tickets as soon as possible. The sooner you book your flight the cheaper your ticket is going to be, usually. The reason being the closer it is to a certain flight date certain seats are usually in higher demand unless you get a great last minute deal.

Sometimes your concept of entertainment travel is much like playing spin the bottle. But purchasing a great pair of headphones and a good library of music is a must for those long journeys. Whether you travel interstates, freeways, or back-streets, you’ll be amazed at in which you may finish up, as the music will help time fly by.

Ease ear pressure in youngsters throughout the airplane’s take-off and landing by sucking on gummy bears or similar sweets. Babies and young children are not capable of clearing their ears in lowering pressure that arrives with take-off and landing. Feeding your child a bottle, nursing, or providing them with a pacifier to suck on can help greatly.

From driving to flying overseas, travelling is fraught with potential challenges. Planning for that unpredicted event is among the most important elements of getting a effective trip. The advice presented above can help all of you if you use the methods discussed, whether you are going on that first family trip or perhaps your 100th business travel, every little tip can help.

Sardinia On A Budget

Sardinia. Millionaire’s playground. Whenever I told someone where I was going for my summer holiday this year, they would suck air through their teeth. One asked me “are you going to the expensive part or the really expensive part?”

I didn’t know anything about Sardinia when I booked it, to be honest. A friend found some cheap flights and it ticked bothour boxes; somewhere warm, somewhere with a beach, and somewhere that wasn’t the Costa Del Sol.

Before leaving I began to panic; was 300 Euro each going to be enough for a 12-day holiday?

The answer was a resounding yes; in fact, 300 Euro between us would have been more than enough..

So how did we manage to visit a region that is often seen as expensive without breaking the bank?

Straying from the Tourist Trail

We avoided the famous Costa Smerelda, and instead wandered further down the coast to Posada in the Nuoro region. There were a few German and Dutch tourists, however the majority of people we encountered were locals. There was a lot of farmland nearby, and the towns were small and fairly quiet; although there were some touristy shops if we wandered down the road a little towards La Calleta.

Self Catering

Instead of paying out of the nose for dinner every night, we rented a self-catering apartment. This meant that we could visit the supermarket where rice was dirt-cheap and meat was about the same price as at home in the UK. We also discovered that you could buy local wine by the bucket for around 3 Euro a litre.

Public Transport

We could have spent a few hundred quid renting a car, and we could have got taxis to and from town. But when the bus is only a couple of Euro, and when we have perfectly good legs, what is the point? Our Italian is fairly minimal so before leaving I made sure I knew how to say “two tickets to Posada, please”. A basic grasp of the Italian language is all you really need, however.

It Actually Wasn’t That Expensive

One morning we decided to take breakfast in a local coffee shop. For two coffees and two cakes, we were charged three Euro. In the UK you would be lucky to get just one coffee for that price.

When it comes to luxury holidays, don’t believe the hype. It’s possible to stick to a budget no matter where you go; as long as you remember common sense.

Top 5 Pizza Restaurants of the World

Aside from French fries and burgers, pizza is one of the most popular and well-loved foods in the world.  The humble pizza traces its origins all the way back in Naples, Italy, where the Greeks living there preferred to cover their breads in olive oils, various herbs and cheeses. This seemingly simple recipe is what would later become the foundation of pizza, as we know it.

The pizza is a very versatile dish and has been reinvented in various versions throughout the world. Aside from your usual pepperoni and Hawaiian style pizzas, other countries also came up with their own versions of the pizza. People from Brazil use chocolates, bananas and other fruits for toppings, or in the Philippines, which use goat’s cheese, shrimps, crabs or stewed meat, a testament to the massive cross-over appeal of this dish.

There are many places where you can enjoy a slice of great pizza, but where can you find the best in the world? Don’t worry, we’ve got a list for just that. According to Yahoo Travel, the best places to eat the best pizza in the world are in these places: Naples, New York, Japan, Brazil and Chicago. However, we are looking for the best pizza restaurants, and the restaurants in this list are not just some the best at their locations, they are also the best in the world.

1. Pizzeria Brandi, Naples Italy

The best pizzeria on the world is located no less, in Naples, Italy, the birthplace of the pizza.

Boncompagni Ludovisi, an Italian pizza expert, ranked Pizzeria Brandi in Naples (the place where pizza originated) as the best pizza place in Italy, while taking into account the quality of the pizzas, the staff, the wine list and the ambiance.

Pizzeria Brandi is more than 220 years old, and is one of the oldest pizza restaurant in the world. The pizzeria is famous for their Pizza Margherita, which was concocted by their very own pizza maker, Pietro il pizzaiuolo (Peter the pizza maker), honoring Queen Margherita’s visit to nearby Capodimonte. This pizza has ingredients that signify the three colors of the Italian flag: Basil (green), mozzarella (white) and tomatoes (red). The menu has since expanded but Pizza Margherita is still the main attraction.

2. Denino’s Pizzeria and Tavern, New York, USA

It only makes perfect sense that the second best pizzeria in the world can be found in New York, Denino’s Pizzeria and Tavern. In a city full of fine Italian restaurants and pizzerias reflecting the great number of inhabitants of Italian descent, it’s difficult to stand out but Denino’s made it possible. Denino’s is consistently ranked number one in New York by various websites including 10best.com, and number two in the world in this list.

Built by the Denino family in 1937 as a family business, Denino’s Pizzeria is loved not only by local New Yorkers, but also from people around the world who have discovered the deliciousness of their pizzas. Their garlicky white pizzas and thin crust pizzas, echoed by customers as some of the best, are sure to tickle the taste buds of any pizza lover.

3. Braz, Brazil

If you ask most people about the possible locations of the best pizza restaurants in the world, they will probably say Italy or New York, but not Brazil.

Yes, Brazil has one of the best pizzerias in the world in the form of Braz.

The pizzas from Braz pizzeria and majority of Brazil for that matter are generously served with mozzarella but that is where the similarity with a typical pizza ends. Pizzas here barely have any tomato sauce and the toppings are even more different. Hard-boiled eggs, local sausages, fruits and chocolates are the usual toppings here.

A food blog devoted on finding the best pizzas, Worstpizzas.com, also did a review of Braz and it passed with flying colors. Another blogger who also gave rave reviews, Gagit, loved the pizzas so much that he thinks it really is one of the best pizzerias in the world.

4. Mangetsu, Japan

Mangetsu is a restaurant in Japan that serves your typical Japanese fare like Yakisoba noodles, Tofu and Sukiyaki, but it is well known mostly for its Japanese pizza or okonomiyaki.

According to most customers who tried their okonomiyaki said that the pizza when eaten on its own is already delectable, but it’s the sauce that makes it all the more scrumptious. “This sauce tingles and tantalises your taste buds to the point you can’t stop eating the food that’s covered in it!” raved by a satisfied customer from the travel website Virtualtourist.com.

Okonomiyaki loosely translated as “cooked as you want it”, the very essence of the universal appeal of pizza. Typical toppings are cheese, fish flakes, seaweed flakes, mayonnaise, squid, shrimp, octopus, mochi (rice cake) and vegetables.

5. Great Lakes Pizza, Chicago, US

Famous foodie blog Seriouseats called Great Lakes’ pizza “stunningly good pizza in Chicago”.

What makes the pizza in Great Lakes special? Head chef Nick Lessins only use the freshest ingredients and spices that are sourced from the local neighborhood farm and market. He is also the only one who creates all the pizzas meticulously, and in the words of GQ magazine who called their pizza the best in America:

Each pizza is made as if it was his first, handling the dough until it looks perfect, adding the topping one bit at a time. During the time taken to make the pizza pie, nations could rise and fall, not just crusts.”

How To Make Your Own Pizza

October is National Pizza month, and it is the perfect time to learn how to make pizza in the comforts of your own kitchen. Of course, there is really no need for an excuse to make/have pizza. This food item is loved all over the world, and is always welcome any time of the day. While going to a pizzeria or calling for pizza delivery is the convenient thing to do, there is something about making your own pizza. Not only do you get some fun out of it, but you also get to enjoy the fruits of your labour! When making pizza, there are three main things to consider:

Pizza Dough

You have two options: buy pre-made dough, or make it from scratch. The first one is the easy way, obviously, and there are so many in the market today, that you can get really good quality pre-made dough. If you have the time, though, you might want to try making pizza dough from scratch. Here is a really easy way to make pizza dough that is awesome using the bread machine. Ingredients: 1 cup water (warm), 2 Tbs oil, 3/4 tsp salt, 3 cups bread flour, 2 tsp bread machine yeast, and 1 Tbs cornmeal (for dusting) Method: Put machine on the dough cycle, and you’re done! You can use this dough for your pizza, just make sure you put it in the oven for around 20 minutes.

Pizza Sauce

The secret to awesome pizza sauce is getting the right mix of herbs in your tomato sauce. Anyone can make a basic tomato sauce – mix tomato puree and paste together with some salt and pepper to taste. As for the herbs, what you add to the tomato sauce depends on your preferences. I suggest playing around with thyme, paprika, basil, onion, garlic, and red pepper flakes. It’s good idea to use dried herbs for this purpose. Once you know which herbs to use, add them to the tomato mixture and simmer on the stove for about 30 minutes.

Pizza Toppings

Ahhh, toppings. The icing on the cake, so to speak. As with the pizza sauce, the toppings you use depend on your preferences. Just so you know, pepperoni is the most popular topping in the United States! The main thing is that pre-cooked meat like cold cuts work best. You can also go for all the vegetables that you like, as well as various kinds of cheese. Mozzarella is perhaps the most popular, but if you want to try something different, try gorgonzola – it does add a different dimension to your pizza! Halloumi, a kind of cheese from Cyprus is lovely as well. Your imagination and creativity – and cravings – will get you a long, long way when making pizza. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise!

Tips For Visiting The Venice Carnival

The Annual Carnival of Venice is held each year in the gorgeous city of Venice Italy, beginning 40 days before Easter and ending on Shrove Tuesday. It is one of the best known and oldest festivals in the world, and can be traced back to the beginning of the 14th century. During the festival, the streets of Venice are filled with live music, performances, dances, parties, and many people walking around in elaborate and decorative costumes with beautiful and ornate masks.

The tradition of wearing masks comes from an effort to make the celebrations welcoming to all, because the costumes hid any social class identity. Since the wearers social status was concealed, they could act more freely and socialize with anyone in society outside of the bounds of everyday convention. The carnival now celebrates the history and culture of Venice, and attracts 30,000 revellers per day. People from all over the world travel to Italy to attend this annual event, some dressing up in costumes and some simply taking photos and observing the pageantry.

The setting for the carnival could not be more beautiful, as the romantic lagoons and stunning Renaissance art and architecture of Venice have remained virtually unchanged for the last 600 years. The fascinating character of this historical Italian city is the perfect backdrop for the colourful antics of the Venice Carnival.

Taking part in the Venice Carnival is certainly a cultural adventure worth experiencing, so here are some tips for your visit:

  • The Carnival takes place in the winter season, so it will likely be somewhat chilly in Venice. Wear layers of clothing and a scarf and gloves to keep yourself warm.
  • Bring a good quality camera, and make sure that it is fully charged and that your memory card has plenty of room. From the moment you arrive at the Carnival you will see one amazing photo opportunity after another and you will be kicking yourself if you can’t capture the festivities.
  • Get yourself a map or a GPS, as the streets of Venice are notoriously difficult to navigate and it can be easy to become turned around and become bewildered among all of the surreal and colourful entertainment.
  • Unfortunately, large crowds present an appealing opportunity for pickpockets. Keep your passport and money close to you in your front pocket or in a money belt just in case.
  • Some areas of the Venice Canals don’t have guard rails, so don’t get so distracted by the festivities that you aren’t watching where you are walking or you might go for an impromptu swim!

When you find yourself in the colourful chaos of the Venice Carnival, you will be blown away by the costumes, entertainment, and the magical atmosphere. Enjoy exploring this bizarre and enchanting world, as it is sure to be one of the highlights of your flight to Italy.
