No good for an absolute beginner posted on 2007-11-20
I had hoped to use the CD in the car but this is not possible as there are no gaps in the dialogue to allow you to practice. You therefore need to use at home where you have a pause facility. The course moves very quickly to complicated sentences - there is no introduction about pronounciation and practice in saying basic words. I was very disappointed with the course. The book is also printed on poor quality, cheap paper. Having said that, it was not expensive and may be ok for someone with a basic knowledge of the language - but definately no good for absolute beginners.

Having studied Italian in depth in high school in Australia and having not used it for five years I decided to try this book to get back in touch with it. I have lost count of the times i've been in work and ended up serving customers on the till who speak Italian and wished I could confidently talk back.

I have to be honest lost complete lack of confidence in speaking it and thus resolved to start to re-learn it from basics, and with this book it has so far been very smooth. The book makes it very easy to pick up and the audio CD's just plainly listened to will quicken the process, the lessons are straightforward and for the price I have certainly not seen better.

My re-learning it has no doubt been much easier than learning from scratch and it may be a good idea for beginners to have one or two lessons with a teacher to get a taste for the language before trying to self teach themselves.
 
Good for refreshing your Italian posted on 2005-01-22
I would suggest that this book is best used after you have gripped the basic understanding of Italian. This book and cassette is a series of conversations not designed to teach, but to refresh.
 
Great book for beginners and anyone wanting to brush up posted on 2003-07-14
This book is definitely worth buying if you are a beginner or want to brush up some basic Italian skills. It focuses on sentence building from the beginning along with key vocabulary. I would recommend that you buy this book with the CD as it is well worth the money.
